What Comes Around flash mob dance

The setting is a typical high school class reunion – in this case it’s the Andrean High School Class of ’65 celebrating their 50th year. Staged in the high school gymnasium, the event begins with another boring speech, until a moment occurs at center court: the speaker asks an alumnus to dance.

Then the Contours' 1960’s hit "Do You Love Me" begins to play over the loudspeakers. These two alumni begin dancing to the music, and are joined by a few other alumni as the audience reacts with surprise.

The music quickly changes to ABBA's 1970’s hit "Dancing Queen" as more alumni and some students join in the dance. Next, Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" from the 1980’s plays, then C+C Music Factory's "Gonna Make You Sweat" from the 1990’s plays as even more dancers appear on the court.

When the 2000’s "I Gotta Feeling" by Black Eyed Peas begins, more high school students join the alumni in the dance, adding their own style to the mix. The dance reaches a crescendo as the original "Do You Love Me" from the 1960’s reprises, with 77 teens and seniors all dancing together on the gym floor.

This flash mob dance was documented by 7 video cameras strategically placed around the action. Some cameras are hand-held by teens, others are worn on teens' bodies, another camera is fixed to the catwalk above the gym, and yet another camera is flying above the action on a drone. Footage gathered was edited  into a tightly orchestrated montage of dancing and audience reactions. The featured theme, "What Goes Around, Comes Around" is demonstrated by teens and seniors joining in dance, collaborating, and having fun together.

- Educate teens on the value of tolerance and appreciation for previous generations
- Encourage teens to ‘give something back’ to previous generations
- Interject an element of surprise, appreciation, respect, entertainment and fun

- Provide a lasting memory preserved in digital media and shared socially
