I was a geek who thought I was cool. I didn't hang out with a particular clique, but with different people from different cliques. I was a total nerd, trying to fit in. Luckily, I found music and that was my niche.

Fitting In

It's perfectly normal: teens group together and often hang on tight. As you push for increasing independence from your parents, you turn to each other for guidance, acceptance, and security.

Safety, for those of you whose self-esteem and self-confidence is still shaky, lies in fitting in and having a place to belong. Most of you find a group you "click" with in a healthy way. But some of you may get swept up in a "clique" that does give you some security but at the price of your individuality and maybe even your values.

A clique (IPA:/'kliËk/, pronounced /'klɪk/ by some Americans) is an exclusive group of people who share interests, views, purposes, patterns of behavior, or ethnicity.[1] A clique as a reference group can be either normative or comparative. Membership in a clique is often, but not necessarily, exclusive, and qualifications for membership may be social or essential to the nature of the clique.
